🎬 ANDREW STANTON 🎬
THE STORYTELLER BEHIND TOY STORY 5, FINDING NEMO, AND WALL-E
🎨 ONE OF PIXAR’S ORIGINAL PIONEERS
Andrew Stanton joined Pixar in 1990 as the studio’s second animator and ninth employee. Born in Rockport, Massachusetts, he studied character animation at the California Institute of the Arts before helping shape Pixar’s remarkable storytelling legacy.
🤠 HE HELPED BRING WOODY AND BUZZ TO LIFE
Stanton was one of the screenwriters behind the original Toy Story, released in 1995 as the world’s first fully computer-animated feature film. His work earned an Academy Award nomination for Original Screenplay, establishing him as a major creative voice at Pixar.
🐠 THE LITTLE FISH THAT MADE A BIG SPLASH
Stanton made his feature directorial debut with Finding Nemo in 2003, developing the original story of a clownfish searching for his missing son. The beloved underwater adventure won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, Pixar’s first victory in that category.
🤖 THE LITTLE ROBOT WITH A BIG HEART
In 2008, Stanton directed WALL-E, the story of a lonely robot cleaning up an abandoned Earth. The film became famous for its largely wordless opening sequences and won Stanton another Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
🎥 FROM ANIMATED WORLDS TO LIVE ACTION
Stanton expanded into live-action filmmaking with Disney’s science-fiction adventure John Carter in 2012. He also directed television episodes of Stranger Things and Better Call Saul, demonstrating his storytelling skills beyond the animated screen.
🧸 TOY STORY ENTERS THE DIGITAL AGE
Stanton returned to the director’s chair for Toy Story 5, released June 19, 2026, with Kenna Harris serving as co-director. This time, Woody, Buzz, and Jessie face a new challenge when a tablet named Lilypad competes for Bonnie’s attention, bringing the familiar toys into the world of modern technology.
